Yesterday afternoon Gawker.com reported that Chicago Tea Party (NOT us) organizer Steve Stevlic was arrested for solicitation of a prostitute on Sunday, June 25, 2010, on the 1600 block of South Kilbourn Ave in Chicago. Media inquiries soon started streaming in because of the confusion of the two groups; thus so we feel the need to make a statement.
Let me make this very clear: There is no relationship between the two groups whatsoever. Mr. Stevlic, of the 6800 block of West Cermak Rd in Berwyn, was removed from our tea party two years ago for inappropriate behavior towards a female tea party member. We never worked with him or his group and never will.
We also strongly suggest to all affiliated groups and organizations that support Steve Stevlic to stand him down. In particular, we suggest that John Tillman of the Illinois Policy Institute, where Stevan Stevlic, 36, was hired as an employee last week, fire him. We also demand, as tea partiers, that Steve Stevlic resign from his position and resign today. We just cannot afford him!
Although the tea party is a fiscal group, tea party Americans know that if we are to demand our leaders lead with character, our own organizers and leaders must also live by the common set of rules of dignity and values. We need organizers with character, not people who are characters. Prostitution is very inhuman and humiliating, Steve Stevlic is an embarrassment to the entire tea party movement. He needs to go and the sooner the better. In fact, the only word that can be used to describe our reaction is absolute outrage and anger.
We cannot be clear enough in asking our fellow conservatives to disavow this behavior and demand his resignation, such as the Illinois Policy Institute, the Illinois Tea Party, Tea Party Patriots, WIND, C-PAC and the many other groups have work or have worked with Mr. Stevlic. Leading by example is a staple of the tea party movement. Steve Stevlic is a bad example of our great tea party spirit!
