Beck-Palin Rally in Washington Drawing Supporters of  “Babies, Guns, Jesus”

Fox News commentator Glenn Beck has a dream about the rally he and Tea Party heroine Sarah Palin plan in front of the Lincoln Memorial tomorrow in Washington: A crowd that organizers say could reach 300,000. Beck insists that the assembly — on the same steps where Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his “I Have a Dream” speech exactly 47 years earlier — is not a political rally. Instead, it’s billed as a celebration of the military, patriotism and American heritage.

Organizers got a permit from the National Park Service that says they expect 300,000 people to attend, the Washington Post reported on its Web site. Beck, who will be joined at the event by Palin, the Republican former Alaska governor, sought to limit crowd expectations during his television show yesterday.

“It’s going to be a little overwhelming as we see tens of thousands of people standing together, locked arm-in-arm, peaceful, happy,” he said. “This event is bigger than any single one person; it is not about one person.”

“ CHICAGO —Protesters mingled with onlookers near the downtown Chicago hotel where President Barack Obama was raising money for Democrat Alexi Giannoulias (jeh-NOO’-lee-ehs). A group of Tea Party supporters chanted “2012. We can’t wait.”

One of the group’s organizers says she’s thrilled Obama is in Chicago campaigning because candidates he’s backed in the past have lost.  “

Thousands of supporters of the US conservative Tea Party movement gathered in Boston for a rally led by Republican politician Sarah Palin.

Mrs Palin, who ran for the post of vice-president in the 2008 election, said it was time government started working for the people.

The rally, held on Boston Common, is part of a 20-day, 47-city tour dubbed Tea Party Express.

The last event in the series will be held in Washington DC on Thursday.

‘Keep the change’

Mrs Palin told the 5,000-strong crowd that the Tea Party movement was taking America back and putting government back on the side of the people.

She criticised the administration of President Barack Obama for its health care reform, which she said could only be paid for by higher taxes, increasing US debt for generations to come.

She said that if that was the kind of change the Obama Administration was about, “we’ll keep clinging to our Constitution and our guns and religion – and you can keep the change.”

Sarah Palin Tea Party rally targets Nevada’s Harry Reid

Thousands of supporters of the US conservative Tea Party movement have gathered in Nevada for a rally led by Republican politician Sarah Palin.

She urged the crowd to “fire” Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and other Democrats who backed healthcare reform in November’s mid-term elections.

“Someone needs to tell him, this is not a crapshoot [a gambling game played with dice],” she said.

The big-government, big-debt spending spree of Mr Reid, Mr Obama and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi was over, she said, adding: “You’re fired!”

FACTBOX-U.S. states and healthcare reform

Reuters-Jason Reed

WASHINGTON, March 22 (Reuters) – “Many U.S. states are worried that the healthcare overhaul plan approved by the U.S. House of Representatives will usurp their sovereignty and impose more spending on their already stretched budgets.”

“States not considering legislative responses include Illinois, North Carolina, New York, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Vermont, Maine and Massachusetts. Also, there are no measures in Montana, Nevada, Oregon and Texas as there are no regular legislative sessions in these states in 2010.”

States launch lawsuits against healthcare plan

   (Reuters)

“The lawsuits were widely expected with announcements coming from the states’ top legal officials less than 24 hours after the House of Representatives gave final approval to a sweeping overhaul of healthcare.”

State officials are concerned the burden of providing healthcare will fall to them without enough federal support.

Eleven of the attorneys general plan to band together in a collective lawsuit on behalf of Alabama, Florida, Michigan, Nebraska, North Dakota, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, Texas, Utah and Washington.

Congress’ attempt to force Michigan families to buy health insurance — or else — raises serious constitutional concerns,” said Michigan Attorney General Mike Cox. “We will fight to defend the individual rights and freedoms of Michigan citizens against this radical overreach by the federal government.

The state attorneys general say the reforms infringe on state powers under the Constitution’s Bill of Rights.” -Reuters

Barack Obama: could the President face impeachment, if the Supreme Court strikes the ‘Slaughter Solution’?

“The nasty car crash that is Obamacare is dragging down Barack Obama’s presidency. The cancellation of his visit to Indonesia and Australia to stay at home offering pork-barrel enticements to doubtful House Democrats is the kind of desperate expedient we expect from Third World dictators apprised of a potential coup at home. It advertised to the world the precarious nature of a presidency that has all but lost control.

In his obsession with his healthcare fantasy, Obama is prepared even to allow the subversion of the US Constitution. For what else is the so-called Slaughter Solution? Leaving aside the grim irony of this name being associated with legislation that seeks to promote an explosion of abortions in America by injecting billions of dollars into state support of that abomination – and thereby making every taxpayer complicit in abortion – the fact remains that the fundamental purpose of the Slaughter Solution is to bypass the American Constitution.” - Gerald Warner, Telegraph.co.uk

Obama to sign health bill, take it on the road

Associated Press Writer= WASHINGTON (AP) —” President Barack Obama is poised to sign the landmark health care bill ushering in near-universal medical coverage for the first time in the nation’s history — and then he’ll hit the road to resume selling it to a reluctant public.

Obama will travel to Iowa City, Iowa, on Thursday, the White House said, as he turns to seeing a companion bill through the Senate and talking up the overhaul’s benefits on behalf of House members who cast risky votes.

Obama is expected to sign the bill Tuesday at the White House, spokesman Robert Gibbs said Monday. A South Lawn ceremony is planned. Obama is inviting all lawmakers who supported the bill and other Americans whose stories represent the need for reformed health care, Gibbs said.

“Last night we made history,” House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., told reporters as she signed the legislation, a formality before Obama’s own signature. “It’s on a par with passing Social Security and Medicare.”

The House voted 219-212 late Sunday to send the legislation to Obama. The 10-year, $938 billion bill would extend coverage to 32 million uninsured Americans, reduce deficits and ban insurance company practices such as charging more to women and denying coverage to people with medical problems.

“This is what change looks like,” Obama said after the vote, a remark echoing his 2008 campaign promise of “change we can believe in.” -Erica Werner, AP Writer

Phone Calls Continue to Batter Congress

“Members continued to be inundated with phone calls from constituents and interest groups Friday thanks to an impending vote on health care reform this weekend.

Calls to the House numbered close to 100,000 an hour, creating a bottleneck in a phone system only meant to handle 50,000 calls an hour. The chamber has been similarly overloaded for four consecutive days, beginning on Tuesday when radio host Rush Limbaugh told viewers to call the Capitol switchboard phone number.” -Emily Yehle, Roll Call

House Democrats prefaced the release of the bill by announcing that it would achieve the deficit reductions needed to push forward with a delicate strategy to finalize the package.

The Congressional Budget Office estimated that the updated package would cost $940 billion over the next decade without adding to the deficit.” -Fox News.com
